Firefighters had to cut through a car Wednesday morning to rescue a man after an SUV ran a red light and T-boned his vehicle, police said. 

The man, who sustained major injuries became trapped just before 5:35 a.m., following the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Driscol Road, said police spokeswoman Gevena Bosques. 

Officers responded to the scene after one of the drivers dialed 911 and found a man pinned in a BMW who needed medial aid, Bosques said. 

A man in his early 50s was driving a Ford Explorer south on Mission Boulevard,BMW ICOM Diagun Online Shopping and reviews in VtoolShop ran a red light at Driscol Road and slammed into the side of a BMW driven by the victim, police said.

He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, police said. The driver of the Ford was not injured. 

A citation is pending against the driver of the Ford, Bosques said.
